Plan for some great snow experiences this season

The snow is here to stay and Riding Mountain National Park is ready to welcome you to a variety of winter fun.
“Parks Canada and its partners are excited to offer visitors to Riding Mountain National Park an array of activities and services,” said Richard Dupuis, Acting Superintendent. “These include Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing, wildlife viewing, winter camping, picnicking and even traction kiting.”
In addition to these activities, the park will be clearing snow on major roadways and trailheads.

Parks Canada staff is working closely with others to provide these ‘cool’ opportunities and ensure visitors know the park is open for this magical winter season.
“We are grateful for everyone’s spirit of cooperation in shaping Riding Mountain National Park’s winter offer,” shares Dupuis. “In particular, we are pleased that the Riding Mountain Trail Stewards Association and the Friends of Riding Mountain Trail Stewards have partnered with Parks Canada for a second season to groom 18 Nordic ski trail areas throughout the park.”
In addition to this great work, a group of Riding Mountain tourism partners will be providing a web portal to help visitors to the Riding Mountain area access winter services, things to do, guided experiences, and self-guided opportunities. This site will offer a brand new feature - a Calendar of Events - which will help visitors plan their trips to the Riding Mountains around events, festivals, and concerts taking place in the area. The new website will be available online before the Christmas holidays.
Parks Canada wants visitors to enjoy their parks and ensure they are prepared. Visitors are reminded that there are risks associated with all outdoor recreational activities, especially during the winter season, and should plan to be self-sufficient even during activities of a short duration. Information on how to plan for safe outdoor activities is available at www.adventuresmart.ca
Riding Mountain National Park is one of Parks Canada’s treasured 44 national parks, 167 national historic sites and four marine conservation areas.
