Safety on the road

La Mauricie National Park is crossed by a winding, 63­km. road that is flanked by stunning scenery, hence its name, the “Parkway”. The magnificent countryside on either side of the Parkway changes colour in time with the seasons. For your safety and that of the other visitors, it is essential that you respect all traffic signs and other road users.

In addition to being used by car drivers, motorcyclists and cyclists, the road is also used by hikers and wild animals. Ensuring that you safely share the road is essential to avoiding traffic accidents.

Adapt your driving

• The Parkway has many twists and turns so it is important to slow your speed on tight turns, where visibility is reduced. It is the ideal way to avoid any risk of skids or collisions.
• Pay attention to the road surface. Its condition varies from one part of the road to another.

Share the road

• All Parkway users, whether they are car drivers, motorcyclists or cyclists, are asked to drive respectfully and thus ensure their own safety and that of other users.

Pay attention to animals

• Frequently, animals will circulate along or cross the road during their travels. Be vigilant: an encounter with a large mammal, such as a bear or a moose, may cause a major accident and/or tie up traffic. If you must stop to let them pass, stop on the shoulder and stay at an appropriate distance so as not to disturb them.

Be sure that you have enough gas or electricity

• Before your arrival, plan to fill up your tank. Note that the nearest gas stations are located some 15 km from either park entrance.
