AREA CLOSURE
Tuktut Nogait National Park - Hornaday River
Pursuant to section 36(1) of the National Parks General Regulations (SOR/78-213), where the Superintendent deems it necessary for the prevention of any seasonal or temporary danger to persons, they may, by notice in writing, close to public use any area in the Park for the period the danger will continue.
Specialised and technical rescue in canyons along the Hornaday River in Tuktut Nogait National Park is supported from rescue teams in southern parks. As a result of COVID-19 there will be significant impacts to specialised/technical rescue capabilities in Tuktut Nogait National Park.
Effective immediately, the area downstream from Uyarsivik Lake along the Hornaday River and access into the canyons in this area are closed to public access as shown on the attached map (PDF 5,700KB). Public access to this area is strictly prohibited. Hiking along the top of the Hornaday River canyons remains open at this time.
The Area Closure is effective as of April 15,2022 and will remain in force until further notice.
