Prohibited activity: Smoking prohibition

SMOKING PROHIBITION
EFFECTIVE DATE:
Until further notice.
PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES:
Pursuant to section 7(1) of the National Parks General Regulations, the following activities are hereby PROHIBITED by order of the Superintendent, Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site of Canada.
It is prohibited to:
(1) smoke, vape or consume cannabis or tobacco within Jeremy’s Bay Campground including Meadow, Kedge and Slapfoot Beaches (refer to map)
(i) except on a campsite with a valid camping permit
(2) smoke or vape cannabis or tobacco:
(a) on or within 20m of a playground
(b) on or within 9m of a trail
(c) inside or within 4m of public buildings
(i) except in designated smoking areas
(d) on the following day-use areas (refer to map):
(i) Jake’s Landing Boat Launch
(ii) Merrymakedge Beach
(iii) Merrymakedge Picnic Area
WHERE:
Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site of Canada.
WHY:
To protect the public from second-hand smoke in alignment with the Smoke-free Places Act in Nova Scotia and to promote a quality visitor experience.
NOTE:
It is an offence under the Canada National Parks Act to contravene these prohibitions.Failure to comply may result in immediate cancellation of a camping permit, eviction from the campground and violators may be prosecuted. Camping fees will not be refunded.
