Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site
Kejimkujik offers a selection of self-guided programs to suit the interests and educational curriculum needs of all school grade levels.
Self-guided programs
Self-guided programs are available to school groups looking to do something on their own, at their own pace, without guides.
Be captivated by the woods and waterways that have been travelled by the Mi’kmaq for thousands of years.
Xplore with Parks Canada Xplorers booklets (Recommended for ages 6-12.)
School groups can complete several mini-quest activities and get a special Kejimkujik souvenir!
Ask at the Visitor Centre for your free Xplorers booklets (one per student).
Complete at least 4 activities in the booklet to become an official Kejimkujik Xplorer and receive a certificate and special limited edition souvenir.
Hike some trails (Recommended for ages 8+.)
Hiking is one of the most popular activities at Kejijkujik. Trails at the main park and at Kejimkujik Seaside will lead your group through an incredible variety of habitats and scenery to places of cultural and historical significance.
Trails are of varying lengths so everyone can have the opportunity to explore.
Ensure you bring the trail map and that everyone in your group stays together and stays on the trails.
Please do not pick the plants or take any natural objects from the forest or waterways.
Rent canoes from Whynot Adventure, The Keji Outfitters, and explore the Mersey River (Recommended for ages 10+.)
Equipment rentals are available online from Whynot Adventure, the Keji Outfitters. Reservations must be made online in advance. Pick up your rental at Jake’s Landing.

Pack a picnic and play educational nature games! (Recommended for all ages.)
Merrymakedge Beach
The best picnic area and playground for school groups is located near Merrymakedge Beach at Merrymakedge P1. There are great views, a large grassy picnic area, playground, picnic shelter and flush toilet.
You can drive to this location and it is also accessible from the walking/biking trail that connects the campground to Merrymakedge Beach.
Here are some great ‘Parks Canada approved’ activities you can do with your group.
Camp in the group campground and stay overnight. (Recommended for ages 12+.)
Jim Charles Point Group Campground
Jim Charles Point Group Campground is available for youth and family groups. Minimum group size is 8 with a capacity of 80. This is a tenting-only facility.
Dark-sky kits
Spend your evening exploring the stars, galaxies, and constellations with our self-discovery Dark-sky kits. Kits are available to rent throughout the season, from June to October. Please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Each kit includes:
- Binoculars (Celestron 8X42 mm)
- Star finder
- Red light
- Activities for children
- Stargazing references

Admission fees
- Free admission for teachers and students 17 years of age and younger
- Free admission for chaperones based on one chaperone for five kids (1:5)
- Admission fees are applicable for students 18 years of age and older

- Self-guided programs are free for students, teachers, and chaperones.
