On June 20th, 2016 a celebration marked the opening and blessing of a new Haida Gwaii Watchmen Longhouse near SGang Gwaay Llnagaay.
The original cabin was built by one of the first Watchmen, Captain Gold, in the 1970s.We would like to thank all of the Haida Gwaii Watchmen who have worked to protect SGang Gwaay for future generations.

we'd probably have nothing down here now.
When I started this in 1973 I was
looking towards wondering only the ancestors had ever thought.
As it snowballed and … turned into something as wonderful as this.
I never knew nothing about my culture until I came down here.
Great building. This shows the teamwork between the Haida Nation and Gwaii Haanas.
This is my privilege, this is our home, this is who we are.
Many dreams have come and gone inside the first building
and I can see it happening with this one also.
