First Nations cooperative planning & management committees

Gulf Islands National Park Reserve

With the creation of the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve, Parks Canada made a commitment to develop cooperative working relationships with the Coast Salish First Nations that wished to do so.

Progress has been made in this area, and there is now an Indigenous Management Board with the IEȽȻIȽTEL or Nuts’a maat kws ‘i’ shul’ hwilasmut tu Skwul ‘i’ kwthe’ Accord Nations which includes;

  • The W̱SÁNEĆ Leadership Council (representing the Tsartlip First Nation and Tseycum First Nation);
  • Tsawout First Nation;
  • The member bands of the Historic Quw’utsun Nation (Cowichan Tribes, Stz’uminus First Nation, Lyackson First Nation, Halalt First Nation, and Penelakut Tribe);
  • The Malahat First Nation;
  • The Snuneymuxw First Nation; and
  • The Pauquachin First Nation.
