Overnight Learn-to Camp Experiences
Registrations for summer 2023 overnight events are now open!
Ready to spend a night under the stars? Join us for a Learn-to Camp overnight experience, where you will learn everything you need to know to plan your own camping adventure.
Learn-to Camp overnights are family friendly weekend events designed to teach anyone the fundamentals of camping in the great outdoors. You’ll spend Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning taking part in hands-on workshops such as: how-to pitch a tent, how-to build a campfire, how-to use a campstove and much much more!
Edmonton Learn-to Camp Summer 2023 events will take place at the Rainbow Valley Campground located next to Snow Valley Ski Club at 13206 Rainbow Valley Rd NW, Edmonton.
Tent, foam sleeping pads and camp stoves are provided.
Everyone is welcome!
2023 overnight event dates are:
- Saturday, July 8 to Sunday, July 9
- Saturday, July 22 to Sunday, July 23
- Saturday, August 12 to Sunday, August 13

Online Learning Opportunities
The Edmonton Public Library is hosting free Learn-to Camp public virtual programs throughout summer months. Anyone is welcome to take part.
Registration is required through the Edmonton Public Library event links below. Public virtual programs are available in English. Workshop recordings can be replayed after the event by following the event links below.

Private program opportunities
In-person workshops are available to community organizations within Edmonton. They generally range between 60 to 120 minutes.
Private virtual programs are available on a limited case by case basis for summer 2023. Virtual programs are between 45 and 60 minutes in length.

Camping 101
A camping basics workshop for beginner and intermediate campers. From setting up a tent to camp cooking, participants will learn the camping skills to feel confident on their next trip!
Wild for Wildlife
Become an expert in Canadian wildlife! In this workshop, learn about wildlife-focused activities and discover how you can protect Canada’s natural places and the critters who live there during your outdoor activities.
Topics covered: Wildlife Safety, Wildlife in the Parks, How to See Wildlife, Keep Wildlife Wild, Invasive Species.
Choose Your Own Outdoor Adventure
Everything you need to know to create a fun-filled camping itinerary, regardless of your skill level. Topics include nearby parks to visit, types of camping and an overview of various outdoor recreational activities.
Survive Outside
This AdventureSmart program gives participants tips to prepare for their next adventure, including trip planning and packing the essentials.
Camping with Babies and Toddlers
Suitable for anyone planning to camp with with children age 5 years old and younger
Connect with other parents and caregivers and find the right camping tips that will work for you to introduce the little one(s) in your life to camping.
Camping Conversation Club
Available for English language learners
Practice your English conversation skills and learn about Canada’s national parks in this conversation club style workshop!
