Respect area closures

Banff National Park

To protect this special place we respect areas that are closed or restricted, because it's the law.

Research your route in advance and if you come upon a closure, change your plans. Together, we can make space for wildlife when they need it most.

Obeying area closures and restrictions is the law:

Area closures and restrictions in Banff National Park protect ecologically sensitive areas, important habitat for sensitive species or species at risk, and locations where the potential for conflict between humans and wildlife is high. Regular seasonal closures occur in popular areas like Johnston Canyon, the Bow Valley Parkway, and Lake Minnewanka.
