Plans and policies

Fort Langley National Historic Site

On behalf of the people of Canada, we protect and present nationally significant examples of Canada’s natural and cultural heritage, and foster public understanding, appreciation and enjoyment in ways that ensure the ecological and commemorative integrity of these places for present and future generations.

The Parks Canada Mandate

Parks Canada manages one of the finest and most extensive systems of protected natural and historic places in the world. The Agency’s mandate is to protect and present these places for the benefit and enjoyment of current and future generations. Future-oriented, strategic management of each Parks Canada place supports the Agency’s vision.

Strategic management of Parks Canada places are outlined in a Management Plan over a ten-year cycle. The Management Plan sets direction for how Parks Canada will deliver its integrated mandate of protection, education and visitor experience. While each place fulfils its potential within Canada’s system of protected places, they continue to be a place where generations of Canadians can connect with each other and with the landscape.
