Access for persons with disabilities

Point Pelee continues to improve services to visitors with disabilities.

Visitors now enjoy closed-captioned theatre programs and an FM broadcast system at the Visitor Centre. Wheelchair access is available to group camping facilities, the DeLaurier building exhibits and parking, Visitor Centre and washrooms at Blue Heron, the Tip and the Visitor Centre. Blue Heron picnic site and Northwest Beach also provide accessible parking, picnic tables, washrooms and barbecues. An all terrain wheelchair is available for free reservation at the Visitor Centre and at the Marsh Boardwalk from June - September.

Friends of Point Pelee

Our co-operating association, the Friends of Point Pelee, supports the park in many ways. Established in 1981, this not-for-profit association is committed to maintaining activities that help protect the Park's resources.

Friends of Point Pelee activities include:

  • Nature Nook Book Store operation
  • Point Pelee Nature Series Publications eg. Warblers of Ontario
  • Operation of Park's shuttle service
  • Festival of Birds
  • Membership and donation drives
  • Adopt-a-tree Project

Point Pelee National Park is easily accessible by car with a parking capacity of over 1 000 vehicles.

Parking is available at the Visitor Centre, Marsh Boardwalk, Group Camping Area, DeLaurier and at all picnic and beach facilities. The Tip area is open to private vehicles from November to March, but is accessible only by a shuttle service, which is included in admission fee, from April to October.

Parking is in designated areas only. Vehicles parked in non-designated areas may be towed .

All picnic and beach areas in the park have washroom facilities as well as the Visitor Centre, Tip Area, Group Camping Area and Marsh Boardwalk.

Wheelchair accessible washrooms are available at Blue Heron, the Tip and the Visitor Centre.
