Camping is one of the best ways to truly experience and appreciate Cape Breton Highlands National Park on the Cabot Trail!

Camping is available from May 19 to October 29, 2017.

There are six front country campgrounds and one backcountry campground to choose from, each unique in its own way. Visitors who camp for seven or more consecutive nights will receive a 15% discount.

Cape Breton Highlands National Park now offers 20 oTENTiks between the Chéticamp, Ingonish Beach and Broad Cove campgrounds!  Part tent, part cabin, the oTENTik allows you to enjoy all the excitement of camping outdoors, while providing a soft bed and a cozy roof over your head.

Chéticamp Campground and Ingonish Beach Campground also offer five reservable equipped campsites each.

Go camping the easy way at Cape Breton Highlands National Park!

We've got an Equipped Campsite waiting for you; you will need to bring a sense of adventure and your personal items (see packing list to make sure you bring everything you need).

We supply:

  • a tent to fit up to six people
  • sleeping pads
  • camping chairs
  • propane stove
  • cooking gear
  • plates/bowls
  • utensils (including cups and mugs)
  • wash bins
  • lantern

Water taps and washrooms with showers are located nearby. No food or drink permitted in the tents.

Free Internet access within a 5 minute walk at the Chéticamp Visitor Centre.

What to Bring

  • Campers should bring warm bedding and all other items. Sleeping bags with a temperature rating of -10º C are recommended in May and September.
  • Food, drinks, water container and cooler
  • Slippers or indoor shoes
  • Flashlights
  • Matches or a lighter for lighting the outdoor fire pit

Sleep in an oTENTik: part tent, part cabin.

Imagine opening up your front door to the wonders of Cape Breton Highlands National Park. You’ll enjoy all the excitement of camping outdoors, but this time with a soft bed and a cozy roof over your head. 

We’ve got you covered with oTENTiks in two beautiful, forested campgrounds: Chéticamp & Broad Cove. Step inside your roomy home and enjoy the beautiful, raised, level flooring. Six foam mattresses are arranged in bunks for cushy comfort. Just lay out your own sleeping bag or bedding. Bring some dishes and tasty BBQ food to cook on your campsite’s open-air grill, or grab yummy takeout from the nearby communities, and have dinner at your site. 

Fall asleep to the sound of river waters lapping the shores at Chéticamp. Walk to the sandy beach at the foot of Broad Cove. And the spectacular hiking trails that drew you here are just minutes away on foot or by car. Cost: $100/night.

Cocoon Tree Bed

Visitors will have the opportunity to experience the magnificent view of the sea while being suspended in the Cocoon Tree Bed. This is a spherical accommodation that is suspended in the trees at Ingonish Beach in Cape Breton Highlands National Park. The accommodation is accessed by stairs. It contains a mattress that is 2.5 m in diameter and can accommodate up to four people.

What do I need to bring?

For every accommodation, you should bring your bedding, pillow, cooking equipment, and toiletries. Cooking inside the Cocoon Tree Bed is prohibited. Plan ahead to be equipped for colder days as this accommodation is not heated. Washrooms and showers nearby.

Campground Reservations

Reservations are accepted at Chéticamp, Ingonish Beach and Broad Cove Campgrounds. All other campgrounds assign sites on a first come – first served basis.

The Parks Canada Reservation Service is available between January 23 (7 a.m.) and October 9, 2017, and the campgrounds are open between May 19 and October 10 (at noon), 2017.
