Torngat Mountains National Park

Park Closure

Issued: June 24, 2020

Ends: January 01, 2021

TORNGAT MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK CLOSED TO VISITORS FOR 2020

Torngat Mountains National Park is closed to visitors for 2020; however, beneficiaries of the Labrador Inuit Land Claim Agreement and the Nunavik Inuit Land Claim Agreement may continue Indigenous traditional activities. The health and safety of Inuit beneficiaries, visitors, Parks Canada team members and all Canadians is of the utmost importance to Parks Canada.

Parks Canada continues to follow the advice of public health experts and is working closely with Indigenous groups to respect their concerns about COVID-19 when making decisions with regards to visitor access and services. The closure to travel from independent visitors follows the May 26, 2020, announcement by Air Borealis and Nunatsiavut Group of Companies that Torngat Mountains Base Camp and Research Station will not operate in 2020.

Beneficiaries may continue Indigenous traditional activities and are encouraged to follow the advice of public health experts, including necessary hygiene practices and physical distancing of two metres from others. Parks Canada is also asking users to be cautious and conservative and to respect any closures that are in place. Anyone participating in outdoor activities should be extra cautious to avoid injury and/or getting lost to help minimize the demands placed on search and rescue teams and on the health care system.

Parks Canada looks forward to welcoming visitors back to Torngat Mountains National Park in 2021.
