Description:

This project is to recapitalize the infrastructure responsible for potable water distribution and waste water collection in Newman Sound Campground. It is part of a larger project that encompasses other areas, including Malady Head Campground and Salton's Brook.

Outputs:

The replacement and modernization of underground infrastructure will allow for more efficient services, such as water and sewer, to the campground.

Visitor Impacts:

Visitor and worker safety is a top priority for Parks Canada. Visitors to Terra Nova National Park are advised to exercise caution, respect all on-site signage and barriers, and to follow instructions from Parks Canada staff or contractors.

As work continues, the following areas are temporarily closed to the public:

  • Newman Sound Campground (including day-use area)
  • Malady Head Campground (including day-use area)
  • Coastal Trail (from Newman Sound Campground to Headquarter's Wharf)
  • Campground Trail
  • Outport Trail
  • Malady Head Trail

Camping loops A to G in Newman Sound Campground will be closed during the Spring of 2022 as a result of this large scale project. This closure includes the following:


  • All regular sites in loops A to F (1-172)
  • All long term sites in loop G (177-180)
  • oTENTiks and Ôasis units in loops B and C
  • All washrooms and kitchen shelters in loops A to G
  • Activity Centre
  • Playground
  • Newman Sound Day-use Area
