Sandy Pond - a natural playground

Wiggle your toes in fine sand on a hot day, build a sandcastle, then cool off by wading into warm, shallow waters for a swim - Sandy Pond is an idyllic summer oasis in the woods for the entire family. Paddle through colourful lily pads. Stroll a gentle 3.2 kilometre (2 mile) loop around the pond. It’s an easy one-hour trail, much of it on wide boardwalks that are great viewing platforms for insect-eating pitcher plants in marshlands. Keep an eye out for mushrooms, wildflowers and ducks along the way. Picnic at one of the tables nestled along the wheelchair-accessible route or on the beach. Bring a canoe for a short 2-kilometre (1.5 mile) paddle across the pond and back. Feeling adventurous? Hop-scotch to other ponds dotting the region, tackle a portage to Beachy Pond, or head further to Dunphy’s Pond and pitch a tent at a waterfront campsite for the night.
