Opening of temporary visitor center in Gros Morne

Between May 20 and October 10, 2022 Parks Canada will be welcoming visitors to a temporary Visitor Centre location at 31 Main St North in Rocky Harbour while the new Gros Morne Visitor Centre is being constructed. Parks Canada team members will be providing visitor information at this temporary location on the Rocky Harbour waterfront daily, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Visitors are also welcome to browse the gift shop on site, operated by the Gros Morne Co-operating Association. Signs will be on the highway directing visitors to this temporary location which is accessible with on site parking for both cars and RV’s.
This temporary Visitor Centre is close to other gift shops, dining establishments and charming views of the harbour. Due to its size, it is not possible to accommodate large commercial groups in the facility. These groups are encouraged to visit the Discovery Centre in Woody Point and Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse in Rocky Harbour for interpretive exhibits and washroom access.
In addition, our mobile visitor information vehicle will be offering visitor services throughout the park during the peak visitor season. Visitors also can still receive information in person at the entrance kiosk in Wiltondale and the Discovery Centre.
On August 4, 2021, the Government of Canada announced $10 million in federal infrastructure investment funding to renew the Visitor Centre. This project is part of the federal infrastructure investment program, the largest federal infrastructure plan in the history of Parks Canada.
To enhance the sense of arrival to Gros Morne National Park, Parks Canada will fully upgrade the Visitor Centre with a design that meets the viewscape and historical interpretation requirements of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, while supporting a safer, inclusive and barrier-free environment for visitors.
