Long before Fundy National Park was established, early explorers were first attracted to Fundy’s shores in search of gold and other precious metals. While their dreams of gold would never be realized, the area proved to be a rich source of copper.
The 4.4 km Coppermine Trail loop takes you on the road that led to the old copper mine (operated from 1891-1910).
Along the way, enjoy the cool shade of the Acadian forest and the many small streams that cascade into the Bay of Fundy.
Beyond the mine, you will travel along the coast back to Point Wolfe. From viewpoints and rest areas along the way, take in the rugged beauty of our cliffs and beaches, the rise and fall of the world’s highest tides, and the coming and going of Alma's lobster fleet.

Be Prepared!
- Know your physical limits; Fundy’s wilderness is famous for its rugged cliffs and river valleys. Choose a trail that is challenging but enjoyable for you.
- Pack for comfort and safety: A sweater and a windbreaker are good insurance against variable weather. We recommend footwear with good traction and support. Pack fresh water and a snack, even if you’re planning a short hike.
- Plan your route and stick to it. Let someone know where you plan on hiking and your estimated time of return.
- For your own safety and to preserve the ecological integrity of our Park, stay on marked trails.
- Leave no trace! Please carry out all garbage, yours and any you may find on the trail.
