Molly Kool kitchen party
Experience an Authentic Atlantic Canada Kitchen Party at the Historic Molly Kool Home
Kitchen parties – informal gatherings where friends get together for music, food and good cheer - are a unique Atlantic Canada tradition. Fundy visitors can join in the fun at the weekly Molly Kool kitchen party during the summer.
Held in the childhood home of Molly Kool – a local legend who became North America’s first female sea captain in 1939 – the gathering recreates the ambiance of an authentic 1930s kitchen party. The hour-long experience features skits by a local lumberjack, fisherman and politician, who offer a window on life in the tiny town of Alma during Molly’s time.
Then it’s time to get the party started. Local musicians break out fiddles, guitars and other instruments for some foot-stomping Atlantic Canada tunes. Join a square dance, sing along or grab an instrument and play if you’re so inclined – that’s what a kitchen party is all about.
