Park Management

Riding Mountain National Park sits on the traditional territory of the Anishinabe people. It has been an important location for thousands of years. Parks Canada works with the Coalition of First Nations with Interest in Riding Mountain National Park to protect and present this special place.

Indigenous people have had a deep connection to the land and waters here since time immemorial. When the park was created in the 1930s, the Anishinabe people were evicted and that connection was interrupted. But it was not destroyed. Today, Parks Canada and communities from Treaties 2, 4, and 1 are working toward “Mino Bimaadiziwin” – the Good Life and part of that is about the connection to the land.
