PUBLIC NOTICE: All beaches are unsupervised in Pacific Rim National Park Reserve

Pacific Rim National Park Reserve is no longer providing surf guard services at Long Beach. In keeping with other beaches on Vancouver Island, visitors are responsible for their own safety and must use extreme caution when swimming, surfing or engaging in any water activity.

All visitors entering the water are advised to:
  • Inquire about surf forecasts and known local hazards from park, surf shop, and visitor centre staff. Please keep in mind that wave conditions change rapidly. Swell, wind, and strong currents can create dangerous conditions. Avoid areas with strong rip currents.
  • If surfing, consider taking a lesson at an accredited local surf school first.
  • Wear a wet suit to preserve body warmth since the ocean waters are extremely cold.
  • Be aware of other people in the water, including surfers and kayakers.
  • Buddy up and ensure a friend or family member can see you at all times. Children should not be unattended.
In an emergency, call 911 immediately, or contact Parks Canada’s emergency dispatch line at 1-877-852-3100.
