RESTRICTED ACTIVITY - Travel Permit Required: McArthur Creek Valley

WHAT: Pursuant to Section 7(1) of the National Parks General Regulations, of the Canada National Parks Act, the following activity is restricted or prohibited by order of the Superintendent:

Travelling on the McArthur Creek trail, from McArthur Pass to the Ottertail trail junction, requires a permit. Permits are available at the Yoho Visitor Center. Two permits per week may be issued during this period. Hiking parties must be in a group of four or more. The maximum distance between two individuals must not exceed 3 metres and should be less when sight or hearing is reduced by the physical surroundings.

The area encompassed by the following UTM NAD 83 z11 coordinates:  

541994/5681354, 542652/5680838, 543903/5680758, 543945/5686187, 545133/5688129, 544226/5688655, and 541994/5686791. Refer to map.

WHY: Protect important grizzly bear habitat, and wildlife corridors. Reduce human/bear conflicts.

PENALTY:  Violators may be charged under the Canada National Parks Act: maximum penalty $25 000.
