RESTRICTED ACTIVITY - No Stopping Zone

WHAT: Pursuant to Section 7(1) of the National Parks General Regulations, of the Canada National Parks Act, the following activity is restricted or prohibited by order of the Superintendent:

Stopping in this zone, with the exception of the designated Spiral Tunnel Day Use Area.

WHERE: Trans-Canada (Highway 1) between Field, B.C. and Sherbrooke Creek

WHY: Grizzly bears are frequenting the road side in search of natural food.

· Stopping creates traffic hazards that are dangerous to passing vehicles.

· Stopping increases danger to wildlife through habituation to people and vehicles.

· Traffic congestion can increase the chance of wildlife being struck on the road.

PENALTY:  Violators may be charged under the Canada National Parks Act: maximum penalty $25 000.
