Pacific Rim National Park Reserve
Temporary Closure – Long Beach North Parking Lot
Issued: November 13, 2019
Ends: November 23, 2019
Starting as early as November 14, 2019, the Long Beach North parking lot, including beach Access 3 and 4, will be temporarily closed to all public access until further notice. Crews are proceeding with their work to prepare the trailbed for ʔapsčiik t̓ašii (pronounced ups-cheek ta-shee) – the new multi-use pathway being built in the national park reserve in this area.
While the work is underway at Long Beach North parking lot, additional parking will be available at Long Beach South. Beach Access 2 remains open during this time.
These closures are being scheduled during times when visitation is lower to minimize disruption to locals and visitors. The work is weather dependent, and while the exact completion date is difficult to determine, crews are expected to be working every day, from dawn to dusk, to re-open these areas as quickly as possible.
Visitor safety is a top priority for Parks Canada, and this closure will remain in place until the work is completed. Visitors to the area can expect to see fencing around work areas and heavy machinery on the move, and are advised to exercise caution and respect all on-site signage.
While the work is underway at Long Beach North parking lot, additional parking will be available at Long Beach South. Beach Access 2 remains open during this time.
Incinerator parking lot and beach Access 1 at Long Beach South parking lot remain closed at this time as work in these areas nears completion.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind visitors to the area that the ʔapsčiik t̓ašii corridor is an active construction zone. Visitors are not permitted to enter any portion of the 25 km pathway until its completion is announced.
Parks Canada appreciates the patience of the community and visitors alike while we complete this important work. For updates on ʔapsčiik t̓ašii and other infrastructure projects in Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, visit parkscanada.gc.ca/pacificrim.
