RESTRICTED ACTIVITY - No Stopping Zone: Olive Lake Area

No Stopping Zone: Olive Lake Area

WHAT: Pursuant to Section 7(1) of the National Parks General Regulations, of the Canada National Parks Act, the following activity is restricted or prohibited by order of the Superintendent:

Stopping in this zone, with the exception of: 1) brake check pullouts for vehicles that are legally required to stop for safety checks or 2) designated trailhead parking lots.

WHERE: Highway 93 South from McKay Compound to Settler’s Road turnoff.

WHY: Wildlife, including both grizzly and black bears are frequenting the road side in search of natural food.

• Stopping creates traffic hazards that are dangerous to passing vehicles.
• Stopping increases danger to wildlife through habituation to people and vehicles.
• Traffic congestion can increase the chance of wildlife being struck on the road.

PENALTY: Violators may be charged under the Canada National Parks Act: maximum penalty
$25 000.
