Research Permits

Issued: April 10, 2018

As agreed to by the Council of the Haida Nation and the Government of Canada through the Archipelago Management Board, and pursuant to Section 7.1(2) of the National Parks General Regulations, the following designated activities require an authorization issued by the Superintendent of Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve and Haida Heritage Site:

  • All activities associated with conducting research in the natural or social sciences, including performing field work, collecting specimens or samples, conducting surveys, and any other activity with the potential to disturb natural or cultural heritage, or negatively impact visitor experience.

The designation of these activities is deemed necessary for Gwaii Haanas management purposes.

Engaging in a designated activity without an    authorization, or in contravention of the terms and conditions of an authorization, may result in a fine or court appearance under regulations pursuant to the Canada National Parks Act, and where applicable, the cancellation of the authorization.
