Restricted activity: Notice to anglers

What: Pursuant to Section 7(1) of the National Parks General Regulations:

1) The use of felt-soled wading boots is prohibited at all times on all watercourses within Waterton Lakes National Park.

2) The use of barbed hooks is prohibited. No person shall, while fishing for any species of fish in the waters of Waterton Lakes National Park, use a hook from which the barbs have not been removed unless the barbs have been pinched to the shaft of the hook.

Why: To reduce the potential spread of aquatic invasive species and to reduce damage to fish.

Penalty: Violators may be charged under the Canada National Parks Act: maximum penalty $25 000.
