Spring and fall cycling in Jasper National Park

Attention all cyclists! Hit the pavement in spring and fall and enjoy Jasper’s ‘Motorist-free Season’ on three main roadways.

Suggested itineraries

Lac Beauvert Road

Distance: 2.2 km return
Motorist-free: Early November to late June
Easy cycling

Whether it’s a family-friendly outing or you’re connecting to another cruisy trail, the Lac Beauvert Road between Old Fort Point and Lac Beauvert remains closed to vehicles from early November to the end of June. This flat stretch of paved road links Old Fort Point to pristine Lac Beauvert, with privies on either end of the road.

Highway 93A

Distance: 15.2 km return
Motorist-free: Mid-March to mid-May and mid-September to November 15
Easy to moderate cycling with some hills

Park the Whirlpool Group Camping area and enjoy eight wondrous kilometres of wide-open road! When snow-free, the section of the road between the Whirlpool River bridge and the start of the Geraldine Road, is open to cyclists and closed to vehicles in spring and fall.

ATCO is undertaking work to bury electrical distribution lines along 93A starting April 1.

Spring cyclists can take extra precautions by not stopping in construction zones from Whirlpool River bridge to the start of the Geraldine Road. There may also be short-term closures for cyclists when work is required across the width of the roadway.

Cavell Road

Distance: 28 km return
Elevation gain:550 m
Motorist-free:May 16 to 30 and early October through October 31
Challenging cycling

Looking for an opportunity to test your physical fitness on this steep and winding road? Park at the bottom of the Cavell Road, and from bottom to top, cyclists gain 550 m of elevation in 14 kilometres – certainly not for the faint of heart, but it’s a local favourite for Jasper’s avid cyclists. Mark your calendar and enjoy this spectacular location on two wheels.
