Elk Island National Park’s main entrance, the south entrance, is located approximately 48km from Edmonton’s city centre, via Highway 16 East (Yellowhead).

There are alternatives to the busy south entrance off Highway 16 that many visitors may be unaware of.

Coming from areas north or east of the park? Consider entering the park through the north entrance on Highway 831 south of Lamont (off Hwy 15), which is staffed during peak hours and has a machine to purchase park entry outside of peak hours.

Coming from areas west of the park? Consider entering the park through the west entrance, just 25 minutes east of Fort Saskatchewan on township road 544.
