The following restrictions apply under the authority of Section 7(1) of the National Parks General Regulations, which is stated as follows:

“The Superintendent may, where it is necessary for the proper management of the park to do so, designate certain activities, uses or entry and travel in areas in a park as restricted or prohibited.”

·Metal Detectors: The use of metal detectors in Elk Island National Park is prohibited.

·Motor Powered Vessels: The use of motor powered vessels (included electric) in Elk Island National Park is prohibited.

·Random Camping: Camping outside of designated campgrounds is not permitted.

·Kites: The flying of kites and all similar items is restricted to the Astotin Lake Area.

AREAS CLOSED

Pursuant to Section 7(1) of the National Parks General Regulation the following areas are hereby closed and restricted to authorized personnel only by order of the superintendent within Elk Island National Park:

·Plains bison handling facility

·Wood bison handling facility

·Operations compound

LIQUOR/CANNABIS RESTRICTIONS AND PROHIBITIONS

Liquor

Pursuant to Section 13(b) of the National Parks Camping Regulations, during the below listed dates the possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited within the Astotin Lake Campground and the Group Campground within Elk Island National Park.

·Friday, July 31, at 8:00 a.m. until Monday, August 3, 2020 at 6:00 p.m.

·Friday, September 4, at 8:00 a.m. until Monday, September 7, at 6:00 p.m.

Pursuant to Section 13(b) the possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages at all times is prohibited at the following campgrounds at Elk Island National Park:

·Oster Lake Backcountry Campground

·Overflow Campground

Cannabis

Pursuant to Section 7(1) of the National Parks General Regulations, during the below listed dates smoking, vaping, or consumption of non-medical cannabis is prohibited within the Astotin Lake Campground at Elk Island National Park.

·Friday, July 31, at 8:00 a.m. until Monday, August 3, 2020 at 6:00 p.m.

·Friday, September 4, at 8:00 a.m. until Monday, September 7, at 6:00 p.m.

Pursuant to Section 7 (1) of the National Parks General Regulations the smoking, vaping, or consumption of non-medical cannabis is prohibited at all times at the following areas within Elk Island National Park:

·Oster Lake Backcountry Campground

·Group Campground

·Overflow Campground

·Visitor Center Area

·Astotin Lake Recreation Area

·Tawayik Lake Recreation Area
