Remote motion-activated trail cameras: research permit required

WHAT: Pursuant to Section 7(1) of the National Parks General Regulations, of the Canada National Parks Act, the following activity is restricted or prohibited by order of the Superintendent: Install remote motion-activated trail cameras: Install remote motion-activated trail cameras

Where: Banff, Yoho, and Kootenay National Parks

Why: To prevent disturbance to wildlife at sensitive locations and protect the privacy of visitors. A research permit issued by Parks Canada is required to deploy remote motion-activated cameras within Banff, Yoho and Kootenay National Parks.

PENALTY: Violators may be charged under the Canada National Parks Act: maximum penalty
$25,000.
