Dawson City ESCAPE!
Note: Closed in 2019 due to infrastructure upgrades
The Commissioner’s Residence will be closed to the public during the 2019 season as we replace the sprinkler system throughout the building. Theses infrastructure upgrades will ensure the continued protection of this historic building.
An Escape Room featuring a REAL murder mystery in the heart of the Klondike goldfields!
There’s a saying that the Mounties always get their man! Is it true? Now, you can see if you measure up… see if you can solve a murder that the North West Mounted Police investigated more than one hundred years ago.
Location: Commissioner's Residence
Pre-booking (required): Visitor's Centre on Front Street
What is an escape room?
It is a game that you play with a few friends. We lock you and your friends into a room - actually into the office of a North West Mounted Police Officer. You and your friends follow the clues, solve the puzzles and “escape” from the room!
How long does it take?
We will give you an hour. An hour to figure out the clues, solve the puzzles and ESCAPE. Think you can do it, can you help the NWMP catch the killer? If you do, you will earn the Official North West Mounted Police Certificate of Genius!
Questions and answers!
Q: Can I play the game in French or in my own language?
A: Right now, the Escape Room is only available in English. We’ve tried to keep the language simple so that people whose first language is not English (or French) can still have success playing the game.
Q: Will we be locked in the room?
A: Yes. We will lock you in the room, otherwise other visitors to the Commissioner’s Residence may walk in on you! However, we will be watching from wireless cameras and there are keys to the doors located on hooks next to the doors should you need to leave. Furthermore, one member of your team will be equipped with a walkie-talkie so that you can communicate with us at any time. You are permitted to leave the room at any time, but leaving means you’re done playing the game!
Q: Will the room be scary?
A: Nope. The storyline is around an actual murder that took place on the Klondike Trail in 1903, but the game itself is about solving the murder and is not scary.
Q: Can I tell my friends all about this game?
A: Please do invite (challenge!) your friends to come play the game. However we ask you to not discuss anything about what you will find in the room, especially the puzzles and challenges. Please don’t spoil the game for others – they will want to discover it for themselves!
Q: Can my kids play?
A: Yes! Anyone 12 years or older may play when they are accompanied by a guardian or parent. To play unaccompanied, you must be at least 16 years old.
Q: How many people can play?
A: We recommend that between 2-6 people play. We require at least two people. If you don’t already have someone you’d like to play with, or you want to be in a bigger group, let us know and we’ll see if we can match you up with other players who want to join forces.
Q: Can we do the escape room all year long?
A: Unfortunately, no. The building in which the Escape Room is located is not winterized, therefore we cannot operate the experience in the winter. In 2017 we will be able to offer the Escape Room during our operating season, from around the May long weekend until the third week in September.
