From Montreal, the Trans-Canada highway leads to Saint-Hilaire. Follow the signs for Route 133 to the lock. Alternatively, take the Richelieu West Road, Route 233, and cross the river using one of three cable ferries.
Although the visit to the superintendent's house, the fish ladder and Darvard Island only takes about one hour, it's easy to spend a very pleasant afternoon at the site.
