In the environment of an island in the St. Lawrence that welcomed tens of thousands of immigrants between 1832 and 1937, experience the first Grosse-Île Learn-to Camp!

The Parks Canada team invites you to sleep under the stars in the hotels area. Parks Canada’s Scouting Guides will provide you with a memorable experience as you participate in a variety of outdoor learning activities and workshops.

Did you know that we offer other Learn-to camp activities in Lévis Forts National Historic Site (June 11-12, 2022) and Cartier-Brébeuf National Historic Site (July 9-10, 2022).

Fees

$48.00 per tent (4 to 6 people from the same family per tent) and transportation costs of $35.00 (tx incl.) per person for the back to back boat trip from Berthier-sur-Mer to Grosse Île with the AML Cruises. No transportation costs for children under 5 years old).

Learn-to Camp is an opportunity for new Canadians and the young families to learn how to successfully plan overnight camping trips while connecting to Parks Canada’s treasures for years to come. Presented in partnership with Mountain Equipment Company, Learn-to-Camp workshops focus on camping related skills such as wilderness awareness, tenting, and outdoor cooking. Participants will enjoy engaging interpretive programs and other amazing Parks Canada activities.

What’s included

  • Tent and sleeping pads
  • Dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday
  • All scheduled workshops and activities

What to bring

  • Sleeping Bags (sleeping bags are NOT provided. Please ensure you have one for each member of your group).
    Pillow
  • Flash light
  • Suitable, comfortable clothing for the outdoors : comfortable shoes, a variety of clothes depending on the weather (remember that it can be cool at night so bring a variety of clothing so that you will be able to layer for warmth)
  • Pyjamas
  • Toys and books for the kids
  • Bug spray
  • Sunscreen
  • Water bottles
  • A hat to protect you from the sun
  • Personal toiletries
  • Any personal medication
  • Camera
  • Items for young children (bottles, diapers, etc.)
