Enjoy a weekend of activities celebrating St. Louis Day and the 24th edition of the champ Artistes sur le champ Symposium, organized jointly with the City of Chambly.

Good times await young and old alike with a variety activities held both inside and outside the fort! The Symposium provides an opportunity to meet more than 60 artists of various styles showcasing their works on the enchanting site of Fort Chambly. Several open studios will be on display, including a collective work directed by artist and painter Ani Müller.

Activities inside Fort Chambly

  • Must-see exhibits: “Smuggling, outsmart the exhibition” and “Mr. Dion, a saviour of the fort!”
  • Soldiers, keep up the rhythm! (Black-powder rifle shooting demonstrations)
  • Various historical presentations

Outdoor activities (in the park)

  • French military camp with the Quebec Garrison Club and the Compagnons de la Nouvelle-France
  • Mounted guard in front of the Fort Chambly
  • Walking a cappella group with a repertoire of French classics
  • Black-powder rifle shooting demonstrations
  • Fire basket for toasting marshmallows

Discoveries, creation and discussion:

  • Cloth dyeing workshop using native Quebec plants hosted by Natachat Danis of Éco Gaïa (from noon to 5 p.m.)
  • Period forge presentation with Robert Bourgeois
  • Crimes, criminals, prisons, and public punishment: Martin Harvey, a historical reenactor embodying an archer reveals what fate befell criminals in New France.
  • Traditional Mohawk basketry demonstrations with Richard Nolan and Elizabeth Rice
  • Darren Bonaparte's wampum collection reflecting the history and culture of the Rotinonshioni (Iroquois)
  • Meeting and discussion space hosted alternately, by Philippe O'Bomsawin, Nicole O'Bomsawin and a Fort Chambly guide on the following topics: food smoking, Abenaki stories, Indigenous languages, the role of Indigenous women and territory, and contraband in New France.
