Spectacular demonstrations, picnics and hot-air balloons!
From mid-May to mid-October
Go to the edge of the chain of locks 1, 2 and 3. Watch the lock gates open as vessels navigate a roughly 24 metre rise or fall in the river’s level. Human force operates eight of the nine locks and one of the bridges; the same manoeuvres that were used in 1843 at the opening of the Chambly Canal.
After this spectacular demonstration, there's nothing better than a picnic in the Parc des Ateliers near lock No. 3 to carry on with the fun. This green space close to Chambly’s city centre hosts a series of outdoor concerts throughout summer. At the other end of the canal, in Old St-Jean, lock No. 9 park is located close to restaurants and shops.
To end the summer in style, surrender yourself to the magic of hot-air balloons. These colourful and gigantic floating pieces of art invade the skies above the Chambly Canal landscape each August and have to be seen to be believed!
