The Lachine Canal extends 13.5 kilometres between the Old Port and Lake Saint-Louis.

The navigation season runs from Victoria Day to Thanksgiving (mid-May to mid-October); the path is maintained from April 15 to November 15 and the park is open every day until 11: 00 pm.

The Lachine Canal is located in the southwest section of the island of Montreal. It is accessed by Highway 20, the Metro or by the path.

Canal's banks can be access by car, public transport, bike or by walking.

The national historic site is open every day of the year from sunrise to 11 p.m. The navigation season runs from Victoria Day to Thanksgiving (mid-May to mid-October).
