Visitor Service Attendant - Patrol

Job Details

Selection Process Number: 2022-CAP-VNQ-EA-SU-206

Salary: $15.40 - $24.77 (depending on education level (under review))

Schedule: 25 or 40 hours per week

Employment period: Late May to late August 2022

Language requirements: French essential or bilingual

Work location : On the sites of the 5 Historic Canals (Chambly Canal, Carillon Canal, Lachine Canal, Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue Canal and Saint-Ours Canal)

Office: 105 McGill Street, Old Montreal

Summary of duties

  • Make security rounds, on foot or by bicycle
  • Raising security awareness
  • Set up prevention booths
  • Answer questions and inform visitors

Education

  • You are a full-time high school, CEGEP, college or university student (winter 2022 term)
  • You are returning to full-time studies in the next academic year (fall of 2022)
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident or legally entitled to work in Canada

Qualities required

  • Effective oral communication
  • Sense of responsibility
  • Judgment
  • Adaptability
  • Good interpersonal skills

Conditions of employment and requirements

  • A valid class 5 driver's license (an asset)
  • Obtain and maintain the required reliability status
  • Be available to work weekends, holidays and evenings
  • Wear the mandatory Parks Canada uniform (provided) as per the Parks Canada uniform policy
  • Ability to perform moderate physical effort to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Be able to walk or ride a bicycle
  • Ability to perform certain physical tasks as required by the position such as carrying loads up to 22.5 kg, and/or walking up to 10 km per day.
  • Must be a fully vaccinated individual against COVID-19 and be able to attest to their vaccination status, unless accommodation is made due to a medical contraindication, religious or other reason as defined by the Canadian Human Rights Act.

Maintenance Helper

Job Details

Salary: $15.40 - $24.77 (depending on education level (under review))

Schedule: 40 hours per week

Employment period: Late May to late August 2022

Language requirements: French essential or bilingual

Work location : On the sites of the 5 Historic Canals (Chambly Canal, Carillon Canal, Lachine Canal, Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue Canal and Saint-Ours Canal)

Summary of duties

  • Support maintenance workers and trades in performing general and semi-specialized maintenance work on buildings, structures and grounds
  • Support the performance of inspections of buildings, structures and grounds
  • Provide support services to visitors (e.g., recycling lifts, graffiti removal, etc.).

Education

  • You are a full-time high school, CEGEP, college or university student (winter 2022 term)
  • You are returning to full-time studies in the next academic year (fall of 2022)
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident or legally entitled to work in Canada

Qualities required

  • Sense of responsibility
  • Judgment
  • Adaptability
  • Good interpersonal skills

Lock Assistant

Job Details

Salary: $15.40 - $24.77 (depending on education level (under review))

Schedule: 32 to 40 hours per week

Employment period: Late May to late August 2022

Language requirements: French essential or bilingual

Work location : Lock stations of the 5 historic canals of Quebec (Chambly Canal, Carillon Canal, Lachine Canal, Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue Canal and Saint-Ours Canal).

Summary of duties

  • Assist in the docking of boats in the lock
  • Collecting fees and docking fees from boaters
  • Respond to inquiries from boaters and visitors on land
  • Perform various maintenance tasks

Education

  • You are a full-time high school, CEGEP, college or university student (winter 2022 term)
  • You are returning to full-time studies in the next academic year (fall of 2022)
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident or legally entitled to work in Canada

Qualities required

  • Ability to interact with users
  • Ability to establish and maintain interpersonal relationships
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • Asset: knowledge of the history and operation of historic canals in Quebec

Conditions of employment and requirements

  • A valid class 5 driver's license (an asset)
  • Obtain and maintain the required reliability status
  • Be available to work weekends, holidays and evenings
