Government of Canada Invests in Parks Canada Sites in Prince Edward Island

Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Agriculture and Agri Food and Member of Parliament for Cardigan, on behalf of the Minister of Environment and Climate Change and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, Catherine McKenna, announced more than $23 million for various projects at Parks Canada sites on Prince Edward Island. The Honourable Wade MacLauchlan, Premier of Prince Edward Island, took part in an event at Green Gables Heritage Place to welcome these investments.>> Read the full news release....

Haunted Wood Trail – Infrastructure project

The Haunted Wood Trail at Green Gables Heritage Place has been renewed with a new look for summer 2016. The re-furbished trail retains all of its beauty and mystery while at the same time increasing safety for visitors. There are bridges to cross and woodland vistas to discover in a truly enjoyable experience for visitors. The trail is available for use by visitors.

The trail lies to the east of Green Gables house and connects Green Gables Heritage Place to the Site of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s Cavendish Home. The trail is a “must do” for many visitors to our site as it is lovingly described in the Anne of Green Gables novel and is the setting for many of Anne’s fictional adventures. Because of the high volume of foot traffic along the Haunted Wood Trail, the trail takes a lot of wear and tear during the summer months.

The wooden staircase leading from the lawn of the Green Gables house to the first bridge and the start of the Haunted Wood Trail was replaced in the fall of 2015. During the fall of 2016, the existing bridge located at the beginning of the Haunted Wood Trail will be replaced, as well as new gravel added to areas of the trail that have become worn down over time.
