Grand Opening Celebration at Green Gables Visitor Centre - August 29 at 11 am - FREE Entry all day

Come celebrate with us! Parks Canada invites the public to attend the grand opening of the Green Gables Visitor Centre on August 29th at 11 AM.  The event, themed “Friendship and Connection,” is open to all. Site entry fees have been waived and we encourage Islanders and visitors to come explore the renewed facilities and engaging new exhibits.

The festivities will take place outdoors on the grass to the east of the new visitor center. There will be seating under a tent and live music will begin 30 minutes prior to the event.

The ceremony will begin with the national anthem sung by PEI choral ensemble Sirens, followed by a Mi’kmaq prayer, and welcome and greetings offered by numerous special guests. Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado of Japan will be attending the event as part of her Royal visit to Prince Edward Island. Sirens will then sing “The Island Hymn” with lyrics by L.M. Montgomery, followed by a short theatrical re-enactment. The ceremony will conclude with a ribbon cutting and photo opportunity.

Following the official event, costumed, animated characters from the Anne novels will mingle with attendees and all are welcome to enjoy light refreshments!
