June 22, 2018 - Community Update: Update on Construction

The concrete lock and approach walls at Locks 39 – 41 have been refaced and/or replaced over the non-navigation seasons beginning in 2016.

Undertaking rehabilitation work during the winter and shoulder seasons ensures that we’re able to welcome visitors to the Trent-Severn Waterway during the navigation season and contribute to a thriving tourism economy. Construction work on the locks has resumed each year when the navigation season closes in October.

While repair and replacement of concrete in the area has been necessary, Parks Canada has worked hard to preserve the historic look of the area’s landscape. This has included constructing mock-ups of concrete walls prior to construction, to ensure the closest representation possible of existing lock wall concrete finishes, and test their manner of fabrication.
