Peterborough, Ontario, May 18, 2016 – The Peterborough Lift Lock tunnel on Hunter Street near Ashburnham will be closed to traffic between the hours of 7:00 am and 5:00 pm, on May 25, 2016.

The temporary closure will allow workers to gather core samples of the concrete within the tunnel. This work is part of the comprehensive investigation of the Peterborough Lift Lock that was announced in June 2015. The investigation will assess the current condition of the structure and inform the development of a short and long-term work plan for repair.

Alternate routes across the Trent-Severn Waterway canal include the Maria Street Swing Bridge, Warsaw Road Swing Bridge, McFarlane Street Bridge and Lansdowne Street East.

Through investments in infrastructure, Parks Canada is protecting and preserving our treasured places, while supporting local economies, contributing to growth in the tourism sector, and enhancing the charm and attractiveness of Canada’s heritage sites.
