    Join Parks Canada and hundreds of your fellow paddlers across Ontario and Quebec for this free mass paddling event at the historic locks. Paddlers of all skills levels and backgrounds will come together in a celebration of community and colour. Launch your canoe or kayak alongside new friends and family and come experience this unique event at either of the three participating national historic sites.

    What is Lock & Paddle

    Lock & Paddle is an annual community event that has been held exclusively on the Trent-Severn Waterway since 2017. This year, it will be held also be held on the Rideau Canal and Lachine Canal. Lock & Paddle is best described as a ‘flash mob’ or ‘critical mass’ of canoes and kayaks. Visitors of all skills and backgrounds are invited to come together and pack the lock for this one-day event celebrating our national treasures. Paddlers come from all around to experience this unique show.

    Where is this year's event happening?

    This year, Lock & Paddle will take place at 3 separate sites in Ontario and Quebec on the same day (July 20).

    • Trent-Severn Waterway Lock 21 - Peterborough Lift Lock (Peterborough, ON)
    • Rideau Canal Hartwells Lock (Ottawa, ON)
    • Lachine Canal Lock 3 (Montreal, QC)
