New Visitor Centre Now Open

Sault Ste. Marie Canal National Historic Site

The NEW Sault Ste. Marie Canal Visitor Centre and self-guided exhibit is located in the historic Stores Building and Blacksmith's Shop, one of our beautiful sandstone buildings located near the site entrance.

The new visitor centre will share stories of the lock’s construction, its history as a commercial operation, its connection to the people who lived and worked here as well as its impacts on Batchewana First Nation and the Historic Sault Ste. Marie Métis People. The interpretive experience begins in the pre-canal era and brings us to the present day operations and our continuing work towards both conservation and reconciliation.
