The NEW Sault Ste. Marie Canal Visitor Centre and self-guided exhibit will be located in the historic Stores Building, one of our beautiful sandstone buildings located near the site entrance.

The new exhibit, will share stories of the lock’s construction, its history as a commercial operation, its connection to the people who lived and worked here as well as its impacts on Batchewana First Nation and the Historic Sault Ste. Marie Métis. The interpretive experience begins in the pre-canal era and brings us to the present day operations and our continuing work towards both conservation and reconciliation.

While we all patiently await the installation, visit us in “The Trailer”, located beside the Administration Building adjacent to the lock.
