Info-Work: REVISED - Geotechnical Inspection on Portion of Colonel By Drive

Rideau Canal National Historic Site

Ottawa, Ontario, April 18, 2018 – Investigative work originally scheduled for April 18th, 2018 will now be completed on Friday, April 20th, 2018 and may extend to Monday, April 23, 2018 if necessary. Work will be conducted between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on a portion of Colonel By Drive between Main Street and Concord Street North. During this time, the southbound lane of Colonel By Drive will be affected. Flag personnel will be on-site to manage traffic and public safety. There may be resulting intermittent traffic delays.

This work is being conducted in advance of possible repairs to the Rideau Canal Walls near Echo Drive in Ottawa. Investigative work will determine the condition of the soil and bedrock adjacent to the canal to inform the construction approach for future canal wall repairs.

Parks Canada would like to apologize for any inconvenience this investigation may cause and express our appreciation for your patience while we undertake this important work.

The repair of the Rideau Canal walls is part of Parks Canada’s unprecedented $3 billion investment over five years to support infrastructure work to heritage, visitor, waterway, and highway assets located within national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas across Canada.
