Issued: July 16, 2020

SMITHS FALLS, ONTARIO, July 16, 2020 – Parks Canada Agency advises the public that the Brass Point swing bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic on Tuesday, July 21st from 7am to 2pm for load testing.

No significant impact to boat traffic is anticipated. The bridge will be swung during the testing to allow boats to pass.

To ensure the safety of residents and visitors, bridge inspections are carried out regularly on all Rideau Canal bridges. The most recent comprehensive inspection of the Brass Point swing bridge determined that the bridge merited further investigation to ensure that it meets the current posted weight limit of 15 tons.
