Hours of operation and accessibility
The Halifax Citadel National Historic Site is open year-round, but our hours and services change with the seasons:
May 7 to June 30 - 9 am until 5 pm
July 1 to August 31 - 9 am until 6 pm
September 1 to October 31 - 9 am until 5 pm
November 1 to May 6 - The grounds and washrooms are open from 9 am until 5 pm.
Ghost Tours and other pre-arranged services are available; however, visitor experience services are limited.
**Fall 2019: To accommodate cruise ship visitors, we are open November 1, 2, and 3. Shoulder season rates apply. We are also open for special events, including Remembrance Day (Nov. 11) and Victorian Christmas (Nov. 23-24).**
For admission pricing, shoulder season is from May 1 – 31 and September 16 – October 31. Peak season is from June 1 to September 15. For more information: Fees.
There is an on-site paid parking lot for up to 80 cars located inside the fort’s West Ditch. The rate is $3.15 per visit. The Halifax Citadel’s parking lot also has designated areas for tour buses and recreational vehicles, and visitors with disabilities.
The site is wheelchair accessible, including the ramparts, the Army Museum, most ground-level exhibits and the washrooms. Audio-visual films are closed-captioned.
