Signal Hill National Historic Site

Signal Hill rises above the city of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, separating it from the Atlantic Ocean's wind and waves. Reach the site by car or on foot, and plan to spend 1 to 3 hours. Call the Visitor Centre before you visit to ask about guided tours and other seasonal programs.

By air
St. John’s International Airport (YYT) serves the east coast of Newfoundland. Air Canada, WestJet, Porter, Provincial Airlines, and Air Labrador are the major airlines offering a variety of flights to St. John’s.

By ferry
Marine Atlantic operates car/passenger ferries year-round between North Sydney, Nova Scotia, and Port aux Basques on Newfoundland’s southwest coast. Ferry service between North Sydney and Argentia, on Newfoundland’s east coast, is offered from mid-June to late September. The crossing time from North Sydney to Port aux Basques is approximately 6 hours, and 11 hours from North Sydney to Argentia.

By car
Once in St. John’s, travel east on either Empire Avenue, Duckworth Street or Water Street until you reach Signal Hill Road. Go straight up Signal Hill Road until you arrive at the Visitor Centre, located halfway to the summit. This is where your exploration of Signal Hill National Historic Site begins.
