Permits

Eastern Newfoundland is an iconic place that boasts unparalleled film, photography, and recreational possibilities. All activities have guidelines to ensure that they respect ecologically sensitive areas, wildlife, and the experience of all visitors.

Please choose one of the following permitting options for more information.

• I would like to obtain a film or photography permit.

  If you wish to conduct a film or photo shoot at a National Historic Site, you may require a film permit, business license, or need to register your project. What you are required to do will depend on the scale and nature of your project. Please complete and submit the following application for a Film or Photography Permit to begin the process.

  There is a minimum six week processing period for film permits and filming agreements must be formalized prior to proposed film dates.

• I would like to obtain special event permit.

  If you wish to host a special event at a National Historic Site, you will require a special event permit. What you are required to do will depend on the scale and nature of your project. Please complete and submit the following application for a Special Event Permit to begin the process.

  Some examples of special events are weddings, fundraisers, and organized group activities.

  There is a minimum six week processing period for special event permits and permits must be formalized prior to proposed event dates.

  *Fees will be applied and are calculated based on size and scale of the event.

• I would like to film using a drone.

  Drone flying is a popular hobby and useful in many fields of work. However, they also pose risks and can disturb wildlife and visitors. For these reasons, Parks Canada strictly limits the use of drones.

  All Parks Canada places are “no drone zones” for recreational use. Flying a drone without park or site approval may result in law enforcement action and a fine of up to $25 000. Please leave your drone at home.

  Field Unit Superintendents may authorize limited use of drones for:

  • natural and cultural resource management
  • public safety
  • law enforcement
  • park/site management purposes (including filming and photography for outreach, education and promotional purposes)

  Film and photography

  You must identify the desire to fly a drone in your Film or Photography Permit application.

  Scientific research

  You must identify the desire to fly a drone in your Research and Collection Permit application.
