As the gradual re-opening of Parks Canada sites continue, Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site has tailored the experiences in order to meet all local health guidelines in regards to COVID-19. Programming offered is subject to change based on provincial health orders. Access to buildings on-site is limited due to COVID-19.

Lower Fort Garry offers visitors a rare and immersive glimpse into the lives of its 19th century residents. Admission into Lower Fort Garry provides visitors with access to explore the fort grounds, view its collection of early stone buildings, interact with costumed interpreters, and learn about historic artifacts that are on display. With demonstrations occurring regularly, visitors get to experience the historic site coming to life.

Good news for families with small children: Lower Fort Garry now offers wagon rentals for full or half-day adventures! Visit our detailed fees list to learn about wagon rentals.

Know before you go:

  • Washroom facilities will be available at the Visitor Centre and the south-east bastion of the fort. Washrooms are open 7 days a week from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
  • Water fountains are closed; please bring your own water.
  • Buggy service: All transportation into the site is suspended. Visitors must be prepared to explore the site on foot or with their own mobility aids.
